Introducing the Smart Author Writing Sprint

I’m Karen Williams, The Book Mentor. My team and I regularly run the Smart Author Writing Sprint – our acclaimed six-week live writing programme built around regular writing hours and light-touch accountability.

Past participants consistently tell us that writing alongside other people – even virtually – makes it easier to stay in the chair and keep going. You show up differently when others are in the room.

Where's the Sprint being held?

All sessions are online via Zoom. Once you sign up, you’ll get access to the full schedule with links – join from wherever you are in the world.

What can I expect if I join?

Structure, support, and serious writing progress. You’ll have regular live writing hours, coaching calls, a private community, and useful resources to keep you focused and on track.

Who's running the Sprint?

That’ll be me. Karen Williams, The Book Mentor. My bio is just below if you want my full story. In brief, I’ve been helping business owners to plan, write, publish and market books since 2014. A few of the writing hours will be hosted by my team - Tracy Harris (my Business Manager) and Sheryl Andrews (my colleague and fellow author), who have both been working with me and our clients for over 10 years.

What if I'm away for part of the Sprint?

You don’t need to attend all of the sessions to get value. You’ll get a Welcome Pack and Tracker to help you stay focused, even if you're dipping in and out.

I have created this Sprint with flexibility in mind. There are 28 live sessions over six weeks – come to as many or as few as you like. Some people join weekly, others come most days. It’s flexible, and it’s there to fit around you.

And if you miss a week entirely? You can pick right back up. This isn’t about perfection – it’s about building momentum at your own pace. All the group coaching sessions will be recorded if you can't make them live.

Do I have to write every day?

No. This isn’t a bootcamp! It’s a gentle, flexible structure to help you make progress and create new habits.

I’m already busy – how much time will this take?

Some people will join once or twice a week, others write more often. You choose what works for you. You’ll be surprised at how much you can get done when you actually sit down and write for short chunks of time. This is about focused progress – not adding pressure. But, if you had to pin me down, allocating 4–5 hours a week would be ideal!

Do I need a fully-formed idea or book plan to join the Sprint?

Nope. You just need the nudge to start. If you have a spark of an idea, the Sprint gives you time, support and structure to get going.

What if I’m already writing?

Perfect! This isn’t just for beginners. It's designed to meet you where you are. If you’ve got a half-finished draft, scattered notes, or something that needs reshaping, the Sprint can help you revisit it with a clear head and finally get it moving. And even if you've already published your book, you could use this time to work on your marketing and promotion instead.

Does it matter if I’m not writing a book?

My expertise is helping experts, entrepreneurs, and leaders to write credibility and authority-building books, but on the Sprint, you could be focusing on any type of writing. You'll find that some people will be planning, many will be writing, and you could also use the time to pull together a talk, create a course, or work on your marketing or launch. If you have content to write, then this Sprint will help you to put focused and productive time in your diary to make it happen.

What if I lose motivation halfway through?

That’s exactly why the Sprint includes live coaching sessions and author circles. You’ll have the chance to check in, ask questions, and reconnect to your purpose. Plus, the community is full of people cheering you on – it’s much easier to keep going when you’re not doing it alone.

What if I want more support?

You can add the Smart Author – Self-Study Programme when you sign up. It includes lifetime access to my six-week self-study course, a 30-minute book mentoring call, and bonus resources.
