The strategic thinking behind a strong non-fiction book is rarely talked about. But it makes all the difference.
Not just to avoid writing the wrong book — but to write one you're genuinely proud to put your name on.
Without spending time creating the right foundations, it won’t be long before you feel overwhelmed – wrangling with too many ideas, notes everywhere, no clear sense of what to do next.
Or worse, you’ll push through and create something that feels too broad, aimed at the wrong reader, or trying to do too many things at once. And by the time that becomes obvious, you’ve wasted months of effort.
The biggest breakthroughs usually happen when you properly pressure-test your idea and its positioning.
That’s why I’ve created the Book Idea Intensive – to give you the chance to step back, make sense of your ideas, and get clear on the book you actually want to write before you commit lots of time and energy to it.
By the end of the intensive, you’ll have chosen your direction and feel confident about your next steps.
In the training, I’ll walk you through the key areas that shape a strong business-building book, including:
Ensuring your book idea genuinely strengthens your credibility and authority
Being clear about who your book is really for – and why this is one of the most important decisions you'll make
Assessing the existing books in your space and identifying what makes yours distinctive
Exploring why disciplined scope matters – and how many books fail by trying to do too much
Clarifying what makes you different – and building the confidence to boldly stand behind your perspective
Defining where the book will lead to in your business – and how that shapes your chapters and narrative
Articulating your idea so that people lean in and want to read it
You’ll also receive a short workbook to help you capture your thoughts, and work through your ideas and next steps.
This is what happens when you get clear on your book idea
“Karen brought clarity when I had too many ideas competing in my head and helped me make sense of what I was actually trying to say.” – Claudia D. Thompson
“I had a book, but not THE book. Karen helped me find the through line and rebuild it so the final version actually matched the vision.” – Philipp Baaske
“I was overwhelmed with ideas but couldn’t shape them into something coherent. Karen helped me turn raw concepts into a clear, compelling structure.” –Hayley Paterson
“After 18,000 words, I realised my book wasn’t working. Karen helped me step back, rethink the structure, and move forward with a much stronger direction.” – Sarah Hamilton-Gill
Is this for you?
This session is for you if you're an expert, consultant, coach, therapist or leader. You know you have a book in you, but you want to make sure you're writing the right book.
This means:
You care about leveraging your expertise – not just having a book that sits on Amazon.
You want your book to open doors – not simply exist as an expensive business card.
You're ready to be bolder about what you stand for — and you want your book to reflect that.
And you want to be confident the idea is strong before you invest months writing it.
How it works
The intensive unfolds across three stages: the live training session, time to work through the workbook, and a follow-up Book Idea Clinic where you can bring questions and ensure your next steps align with your vision.
Session 1 – The Training
Thursday 16 April, 12-1.30pm BST (UK time)
I'll guide you through the key thinking behind a strong book idea, using our new Smart Author workbook as the framework.
Session 2 – Book Idea Clinic
Tuesday 21 April, 12-1pm BST (UK time)
Bring your questions once you’ve had time to work through your ideas — you’ll be invited to submit them in advance so I can review them and keep the session focused and useful.
Bonus Training: How to Pitch Your Book Idea to a Publisher
In this additional bonus session, I’ll show you what publishers look for in a book proposal and how the knowledge we cover in the intensive can be used if you ever decide to pitch your book idea.
Even if you never pitch to a publisher, understanding this will sharpen your thinking, shape your content, and help you answer the question every author gets asked: "So what's your book about?"
Investment: £147 + VAT
Both sessions, the recordings, workbook, and the publishing pitch bonus training are included.
By booking you agree to our terms and conditions (details when you sign up).
